The film is produced by 8-Bit and directed by Risako Yoshida, featuring an original story by Satō and music by Taku Iwasaki. The movie events will unfold between the 10th and 11th volumes of the original novel and the film itself was released in Japan on June 17, 2017.

In the story, the seasons have changed and it will soon be the second spring. Tatsuya and Miyuki have finished their first year at first magic high school and are on their spring break. The two go with their friends to a villa on the Ogasawara Island archipelago. After only a small moment of peace, they find a young girl named Kokoa. She has escaped an experimental lab at the Naval base and the group decides to save her and the others still beholden to the cruel CAD experiments.

The development of the movie was revealed in the 19th light novel volume released in March 2016.[2] The film will feature a plot scripted by series creator Tsutomu Satō,[3] and will premiere in Japan on June 17, 2017.[4][5] All of the voice actors from the anime will reprise their roles.
At the Dengeki Game Festival 2017 event in Tokyo on Sunday March 12, more details were revealed about the film, including additional cast members, the theme song artist, and a fourth key visual. Also, the film's official website added the promotional video for the film. Risako Yoshida, who served as the unit director and a storyboarder on the anime television series, is directing the film at studio 8-Bit. Original light novel series illustrator Kana Ishida is returning to serve as the character designer and chief animation director. Original light novel author Tsutomu Satō is writing an original new story for the film, and he and WriteWorks are writing the script. Taku Iwasaki is returning to compose the music.[6] On April 19, the official website revealed three new cast members and a new visual,[7] and on April 29, the third teaser was shown, including the date of a special screening.[8] On May 31, the official website began streaming a trailer for film. This included information about the original novel from Sato about Lina's past. It included the date of a special screening and the date fora meet and greet with the film's main personnel.[9] On June 13, Aniplex showed the first two minutes of the film[10]
On June 10, 2017, Aniplex of America announced they had acquired the film for an English-language release, and announced that it would screen the film beginning on July 28, 2017.[11][12][13] In Australia and New Zealand, Madman Entertainment announced at SMASH! 2017 that they had licensed the film for screening, and premiered the film on November 2, 2017.[14] The film was also screened in South East Asia by Odex.
Aniplex released Blu-ray & DVD versions of the film in Japan on January 24, 2018.
The film's theme song is 'Speed Star' by Garnidelia.

On its opening weekend, the film debuted in 59 theaters across Japan and grossed a total of ¥163 million from 107,000 admissions, opening at #5 at the Japanese box office.[1]
